- Hypnosis is a well documented, complementary healing modality. It can be an effective tool for addressing the underlying psychological factors contributing to addictive behaviors, such as stress, anxiety, and deeply ingrained habits. Some changes might require more than a single session. Hypnosis is most effective when used in conjunction with other treatments, such as counseling, support groups, and medical interventions, under the guidance of a qualified professional.
- The Hypnosis process can take anywhere from 20 - 45 minutes. Hypnosis relaxes your conscious thinking mind, thereby allowing your creative mind to be in a state of learning.
- You will be guided into a relaxed, comfortable state of being using a variety of techniques designed to change your focus from externally oriented to internally focussed (trance). It feels more relaxed to keep your eyes closed though it is not necessary.
- You are always fully aware of what is being said and in control of your session. You are able to respond verbally if asked questions in this trance state. This practitioner makes use of indications other than talk generally, which is why your dominant hand is requested in the intake. If you feel so at any point in the session you may just open your eyes to end it.
- There are different types of trance or relaxed focussed states. Some people easily loose track of the outside world, while others might drift lightly in and out. Please know both states are quite normal and it does not hinder the learning experience.
- Successive sessions get easier once you know what to expect of yourself and have developed some level of trust with your practitioner.
- It is important to set realistic expectations and to recognize that individual responses to hypnosis can vary. For some it can be an intense experience, and meaningful material could come up, both in and after sessions. During sessions, the hypnotist is trained to look out for these and moderate accordingly. Post sessions this can be a healing experience. A therapist is handy if you need assistance to debrief. Most find hypnosis to be a positive experience.
